Using DataHub Add-in

Demo Workbook

Starting the Add-in demo workbook

The best way to start using the DataHub Add-in for Excel is with the demo workbook, DataHubExcelDemo.xlsx, included in the DataHub Add-in archive. This workbook gives an easy, a hands-on demonstration using live data from the Cogent DataHub service for Azure.

Connect to a local DataHub instance

Once you are familiar with Vine Add-in, you may want to connect it to a local DataHub instance.

  1. Start a DataHub instance. (Here’s how)
  2. Run DataPid if you want sample data. (Here’s how)
  3. Configure a connection from Excel to the DataHub. instance.  (Here’s how)

Share data between workbooks

Connect another workbook to the DataHub, and you can share data between workbooks.

Connect Excel to other DataHub clients

Once connected to a DataHub instance, the Add-in will send data updates for every data point configured with a Direction of “Write”, “Write before Read”, or “Read before Write”.  These updates are then published in real time to every DataHub client that has subscribed to those points.

In a similar way, the Add-in can simply receive data from other DataHub clients by configuring data points with a Direction of “Read.”
