Power Plant Updates

Cogent DataHub Use Case

A large power generation company in North America uses Cogent DataHub software to keep engineering staff and management informed of routine production, as well as any unusual changes, across multiple plant sites, via email.  To receive and process the data updates, they use one DataHub instance in their central office configured for OPC tunnelling, as well as email and SMS support.

At each participating power station they have connected a second DataHub OPC Tunneller to the plant’s SCADA system.  Using secure, outbound tunnel connections they are able to send production data updates in real time from those remote locations to the DataHub instance running in the central office.  That DataHub instance then sends regular reports and any urgent updates out to company management to give them an overall view of company production.  Each email report conveys the real-time status and values from the live production systems.

Based on the initial success of this project, the company has enabled their system to send updates from selected data sets to their cloud provider, using the OPC to MQTT capabilities of their DataHub software.  Using the DataHub MQTT Client feature, they can send data securely to their AI engines or other analytical software provided by the cloud service.
